HELEN KOSOWAN Peacefully on Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at approximately 4:30 p.m., in the company of caregivers, Helen quietly bowed her head and slipped away. Helen was born on May 25, 1923, into a farming community in Stuartburn, MB. Helen is survived by her daughter Andrea Joy Lesko (nee Kosowan) of British Columbia; and youngest sister Dorothy Smith (nee Kosowan) of Minneapolis, U.S.A.; as well, many nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S. fondly remember Aunty Helen. Helen was predeceased by her parents Nicolas and Sophia Kosowan; sisters, Marion Mosyk (nee Kosowan), Jelena (Lee) Harms (nee Kosowan), Sylvia Kosowan, Violet Foster (nee Kosowan), Katherine Rath (nee Kosowan) and brothers, John and William (Bill) Kosowan. At 19 years of age Helen secured her first job in Vita, MB, working in a hotel kitchen. Beginning there she grew to become a notable cook by trade and by love. Many with whom she worked and befriended will remember Helen. Her fondest reminiscences were of her relationships at the Oh Come Inn!, and with the Morton and Casey families in Winnipeg. Her kitchen specialties were scrumptious borscht, perogies, cabbage rolls, cornmeal and apple pies. In addition to her savoury cooking, Helen will be remembered for her intuitive and dry humour. When least expected, Helen would lead friends and family into spontaneous and hearty laughter. Helen lived for 31 years in St. Vital. 20 years were spent living beside her best friend and helper, Mrs. Margaret Warr, and alongside friends at 133 Niakwa Rd. In April 2001, Helen moved to the St. Norbert Personal Care Home where she was able to rest from the tasks she performed for herself and others. Mom always said that other peoples cooking tasted better, especially when accompanied by ice cream. Funeral services will take place in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, Tuesday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Logan officiating. Following the service, Helen will be laid to rest alongside her father Nicolas and brother Bill at Brookside Cemetery. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
